Regular Season Round 10: Hitachi Cougars - Mitsubishi K. 61-86

Rather expected game when 6th ranked Hitachi Cougars (6-2) were smashed by fourth ranked Mitsubishi K. (8-2) in Hitachinaka 86-61 on Sunday. Mitsubishi K. dominated down low during the game scoring 54 of its points in the paint compared to Hitachi Cougars' 32. Mitsubishi K. forced 19 Hitachi Cougars turnovers and outrebounded them 42-31 including a 30-19 advantage in defensive rebounds. Mitsubishi K. looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists comparing to just 8 passes made by Hitachi Cougars' players. The former international swingman Aya Watanabe (168-92) notched a double-double by scoring 18 points, 6 rebounds and 12 assists (perfect from the field making all seven shots !!!) to lead the effort and the former international power forward Yuka Kosuge (181-91) supported her with 21 points, 5 assists and 5 steals (on 9-of-11 shooting from the field). Even 14 points and 7 rebounds by forward Midori Murayama (179-93) did not help to save the game for Hitachi Cougars. Guard Yuki Kitamura (172-94) added 18 points for lost side. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Mitsubishi K. have an impressive seven-game winning streak. They maintain fourth position with 8-2 record. Hitachi Cougars at the other side keep the sixth place with two games lost. Mitsubishi K. will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Hitachi Cougars will play against the league's leader Denso I. (#1) and hope to secure a win.
