Regular Season Round 9: Hitachi Cougars - Mitsubishi K. 67-83

Hitachi Cougars (6-1) recorded its first loss in Hitachinaka on Saturday night. Hosts were defeated by fifth ranked Mitsubishi K. (7-2) 83-67. It ended at the same time the six-game winning streak of Hitachi Cougars. Mitsubishi K. dominated down low during the game scoring 56 of its points in the paint compared to Hitachi Cougars' 24. Mitsubishi K. forced 19 Hitachi Cougars turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 32 assists comparing to just 16 passes made by Hitachi Cougars' players. The best player for the winners was the former international power forward Yuka Kosuge (181-91) who scored 24 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists. The former international swingman Aya Watanabe (168-92) chipped in a double-double by scoring 13 points and 10 assists. Four Mitsubishi K. players scored in double figures. Mitsubishi K.'s coach Koga Kyoko used an eleven-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. At the other side the best for losing team was the former international center Rika Tanimura (185-93) who recorded a double-double by scoring 19 points, 14 rebounds and 4 assists and point guard Hoshi Aka (170-95) added 15 points and 5 rebounds respectively. Mitsubishi K. have an impressive series of six victories in a row. They moved-up to fourth place. Hitachi Cougars at the other side dropped to the sixth position with one game lost. Mitsubishi K. will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Hitachi Cougars will play again at home against Mitsubishi K. (#4) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
