Regular Season Round 13: Sendai 89ers - Yamagata 68-77

Round 13 most important game was a victory of Yamagata over 3rd placed Sendai 89ers 77-68 on Sunday night. It was a key game for the second position in the league. Yamagata made 21-of-26 free shots (80.8 percent) during the game. It was a great shooting night for Yamagata especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 52.6 percentage. Worth to mention a great performance of American center Kenny Lawson (207-88, college: Creighton) who helped to win the game recording 22 points and 6 rebounds. Point guard Shunto Murakami (183-96) contributed with 19 points and 4 assists for the winners. American Devin Oliver (204-92, college: Dayton) answered with 16 points and 7 rebounds and the other American import forward Justin Burrell (207-88, college: St.John's) added 14 points and 5 assists in the effort for Sendai 89ers. Four Sendai 89ers players scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Yamagata (9-4) moved-up to second place, which they share with Nishinomiya S. Sendai 89ers at the other side dropped to the fourth position with five games lost. They share it with Fukushima. Yamagata is looking forward to face league's second-placed Koshigaya A. in Tokyo in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Sendai 89ers will play at home against Aomori W. and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
