There was a surprise result when nineteenth ranked Blue Whales (2-10) won against higher ranked Sturgeons (3-9) in Sichuan 100-90 on Thursday. Blue Whales made 18-of-22 free shots (81.8 percent) during the game. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 33 assists comparing to just 20 passes made by Sturgeons' players. Chen Chen (201-85) notched a double-double by scoring 18 points, 8 rebounds and 10 assists to lead the effort and Ruoyu Su (206-91) supported him with 18 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists. Even 28 points and 7 assists by center Huang Yi (207-99) did not help to save the game for Sturgeons. Swingman Jianghuai Li (191-92) added 12 points and 7 assists for the guests. Five Blue Whales and four Sturgeons players scored in double figures. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Blue Whales moved-up to seventeenth place, which they share with Tianjin. Sturgeons lost third consecutive game. They keep the thirteenth position with nine games lost. They share it with 3 other teams. Blue Whales will meet higher ranked Golden Bulls (#7) in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game. Sturgeons will play against Eagles (#14) in Qingdao and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
