Rather expected game when 6th ranked Aomori W. (1-10) was defeated at home by fourth ranked Yamagata (8-3) 61-55 on Wednesday. Yamagata made 19-of-24 free shots (79.2 percent) during the game. Yamagata outrebounded Aomori W. 46-34 including 32 on the defensive glass. The best player for the winners was American center Kenny Lawson (207-88, college: Creighton) who had a double-double by scoring 23 points and 11 rebounds. His fellow American import forward Jawad Williams (204-83, college: UNC) chipped in 9 points and 8 rebounds. Guard Hayate Komasawa (188-98) produced 22 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists and Canadian center Renaldo Dixon (206-90, college: NM State) added 10 points, 9 rebounds and 4 blocks respectively for the hosts. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. The victory was the fourth consecutive win for Yamagata. They moved-up to second place, which they share with Koshigaya A. and Nishinomiya S. Aomori W. lost their fifth game in a row. They keep the sixth position with ten games lost. Yamagata will meet Sendai 89ers (#4) on the road in the next round. Aomori W. will play against the league's leader FE Nagoya and hope to win that game.
