Regular Season Round 4: Niigata R. - Mitsubishi K. 43-75

There was a small surprise when eighth ranked Mitsubishi K. (2-2) crushed 6th ranked Niigata R. (2-6) in Tokyo 75-43 on Sunday. Mitsubishi K. held Niigata R. to an opponent 22.9 percent shooting from the field compared to 40.9 percent accuracy of the winners and made 17-of-20 free shots (85.0 percent) during the game. Mitsubishi K. outrebounded Niigata R. 68-24 including a 28-9 advantage in offensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists comparing to just 6 passes made by Niigata R.'s players. The winners were led by the former international center Kyoko Hamaguchi (181-90) who had that evening a double-double by scoring 13 points and 14 rebounds and the former international power forward Yuka Kosuge (181-91) supported her with 7 points, 10 rebounds and 5 assists. Even 9 points and 9 rebounds by forward Midori Kanazawa (169-96) did not help to save the game for Niigata R.. Forward Yumi Yano (179-97) added 10 points and 6 rebounds for lost side. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Mitsubishi K. moved-up to seventh place. Loser Niigata R. dropped to the eighth position with six games lost. Mitsubishi K. will meet Aranmare A. (#10) in the next round. Niigata R. will play against Fujitsu RW in Kawasaki and hope to secure a win.
