Regular Season Round 8: Sendai 89ers - Ehime OV 90-85

Very expected game when 7th ranked Ehime OV (1-7) was defeated on the road by second ranked Sendai 89ers (6-2) 90-85 on Sunday. However just five-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. Sendai 89ers outrebounded Ehime OV 38-27 including 27 on the defensive glass. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Sendai 89ers made 7 blocks. The best player for the winners was American center Jerome Meyinsse (208-88, college: Virginia) who had a double-double by scoring 28 points and 14 rebounds. The other American import forward Justin Burrell (207-88, college: St.John's) chipped in a double-double by scoring 22 points and 12 rebounds (on 10-of-12 shooting from the field). Sendai 89ers' coach Hiroki Fujita used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. American-Filipino forward Eugene Phelps (198-90, college: LBSU) produced a double-double by scoring 13 points, 12 rebounds and 4 assists and American power forward Andrew Fitzgerald (202-90, college: Oklahoma) added 16 points and 6 rebounds respectively for the guests. Four Sendai 89ers and five Ehime OV players scored in double figures. Sendai 89ers have an impressive five-game winning streak. They keep a position of league leader, which they share with Kagawa FA. Ehime OV lost third consecutive game. They dropped to the sixth place with seven games lost. They share the position with Aomori W.. Sendai 89ers will meet Fukuoka R. (#4) on the road in the next round. Ehime OV will play against the league's leader FE Nagoya and hope to win that game.
