Regular Season Round 7: Sendai 89ers - Ehime OV 85-63

Very expected game when 7th ranked Ehime OV (1-6) was smashed on the road by second ranked Sendai 89ers (5-2) 85-63 on Saturday. Sendai 89ers dominated down low during the game scoring 44 of its points in the paint compared to Ehime OV's 22 and made 20-of-23 free shots (87.0 percent) during the game. Sendai 89ers looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. It was an exceptional evening for American forward Justin Burrell (207-88, college: St.John's) who led the winners and scored 21 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists. His fellow American import center Jerome Meyinsse (208-88, college: Virginia) accounted for 20 points and 8 rebounds for the winning side. Five Sendai 89ers players scored in double figures. American-Filipino forward Eugene Phelps (198-90, college: LBSU) came up with a double-double by scoring 22 points and 11 rebounds and guard Tatsuhiko Toshino (185-88) added 11 points respectively for Ehime OV in the defeat. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. The victory was the fourth consecutive win for Sendai 89ers. They keep a position of league leader, which they share with Kagawa FA and Kumamoto V. Loser Ehime OV dropped to the sixth place with six games lost. They share the position with Aomori W.. Sendai 89ers will again meet at home Ehime OV (#7) in the next round which should be theoretically another easy game. Ehime OV will have a break next round.
