Regular Season Round 7: Yamagata - Fukushima 73-79

There was a small surprise when fifth ranked Fukushima (4-3) defeated on the road 3rd placed Yamagata (4-3) 79-73 on Saturday. Fukushima looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. It was an exceptional evening for American-Bulgarian center Jason Washburn (213-90, college: Utah, agency: Pensack Sports) who led the winners with a double-double by scoring 19 points and 12 rebounds. Finnish-American power forward Erik Murphy (208-90, college: Florida) accounted for 14 points and 7 rebounds for the winning side. Fukushima's coach Tomohiro Moriyama used entire bench and allowed the starting five to rest. American center Kenny Lawson (207-88, college: Creighton) came up with a double-double by scoring 22 points and 12 rebounds and point guard Shunto Murakami (183-96) added 13 points and 4 assists respectively for Yamagata in the defeat. Fukushima moved-up to third place, which they share with 3 other teams including defeated Yamagata. Yamagata lost their third game in a row. Fukushima will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Yamagata will play again against Fukushima and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
