Regular Season Round 4: Meralco Bolts - Hotshots 95-94

The biggest surprise took place in Manila where host Meralco Bolts (5-1) edged league's leader Hotshots (4-1) 95-94 on Wednesday evening. It ended at the same time the four-game winning streak of Hotshots. It was a key game for the top position in the league. Meralco Bolts made 23-of-27 free shots (85.2 percent) during the game. 25 personal fouls committed by Hotshots helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. The best player for the winners was naturalized American Clifford Hodge (196-88, college: HPU) who had a double-double by scoring 18 points and 11 rebounds. Forward Ray Belo (196-92) chipped in 22 points and 6 rebounds. Naturalized American forward Calvin Abueva (190-88) produced a double-double by scoring 18 points and 14 rebounds and guard Paul Lee (185-89) added 21 points respectively for the guests. Five Meralco Bolts and four Hotshots players scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Meralco Bolts have a solid three-game winning streak. They keep a position of league leader. Hotshots at the other side dropped to the third place with one game lost. They were replaced at the leadership position by Meralco Bolts. Hotshots will play next round against Blackwater Elite trying to make it back to the top of the standings. Meralco Bolts will try to continue on its current victory against second ranked TNT Ka Tropa in Makati.
