Regular Season Round 24: Hoops - Beirut Club 70-81

The most interesting game was a derby match between two local teams from Beirut: Beirut Club (#5) and Hoops (#6). Hoops were defeated at home 70-81 and even the fact of playing on their own court did not help. Beirut Club outrebounded Hoops 41-26 including 26 on the defensive glass. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists comparing to just 10 passes made by Hoops' players. The best player for the winners was international guard Georges El Beyrouty (193-99) who had a double-double by scoring 14 points, 13 rebounds and 7 assists. The former international Elie Chamoun (193-94, agency: BIG) chipped in 21 points and 6 assists. Four Beirut Club players scored in double figures. At the other side the best for losing team was guard Georges Choueiry (184-95) who recorded 24 points (went 8 for 8 at the free throw line) and international Habib Abdallah added 16 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists (went 8 for 8 at the free throw line) respectively. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Beirut Club maintains fifth position with 10-6 record. Hoops at the other side keep the sixth place with eight games lost. Beirut Club will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Hoops will play on the road against Anibal (#10) in Zahle and are hoping to prove to their fans that the loss was just an accident.
