Seventh-ranked Nift Al-Shamal (7-12) used its home court advantage to challenge fifth ranked Al Kahraba (12-5) in Kirkuk on Tuesday. The visitors from Baghdad managed to secure only three-point victory 88-85. However their fans expected easier game. Al Kahraba held Nift Al-Shamal to an opponent 0.0 percent shooting from the field compared to 0.0 percent accuracy of the winners. They outrebounded Nift Al-Shamal 55-40 including 40 on the defensive glass. American guard Aaron Mitchell (188-89, college: Longwood) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 30 points, 12 rebounds and 8 assists. The former international forward Ahmed Al-Tameemi (200-84) contributed with a double-double by scoring 16 points and 12 rebounds for the winners. American guard Byron Ashe (186-95, college: Longwood) replied with 28 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists and Ali Sewari added 17 points and 6 rebounds in the effort for Nift Al-Shamal. Four Nift Al-Shamal players scored in double figures. Al Kahraba have a solid three-game winning streak. They moved-up to fourth place. Newly promoted Nift Al-Shamal keeps the seventh position with 12 games lost. They share it with Al-Khtot. Al Kahraba are looking forward to face bottom-ranked Al Hilla (#12) on the road in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Nift Al-Shamal will play against the league's second-placed Al Shorta (#2) and is hoping to prove to their fans that this time they can win.
