Regular Season Round 57: Ehime OV - FE Nagoya 84-108
Date: April 17, 2021
Not a big story in a game in Matsuyama where 8th ranked Orange Vikings (16-35) were rolled over by second ranked FE Nagoya (33-21) 108-84 on Saturday. FE Nagoya dominated down low during the game scoring 74 of its points in the paint compared to Orange Vikings' 38. They outrebounded Orange Vikings 43-18 including a 31-13 advantage in defensive rebounds. FE Nagoya looked well-organized offensively handing out 36 assists comparing to just 22 passes made by Orange Vikings' players. British forward Benjamin Lawson (216-95, college: WKU) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 34 points (!!!), 14 rebounds and 5 assists (on 16-of-19 shooting from the field) for the winners and American power forward Andrew Fitzgerald (202-90, college: Oklahoma) chipped in 32 points, 9 rebounds and 6 assists. The best for the losing side was American center Ryan Stephan (208-94, college: CMU) with 27 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists and the other American import forward Perry Ellis (203-93, college: Kansas) scored 20 points. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. The victory was the fifth consecutive win for FE Nagoya. They maintain second place with 33-21 record having six points less than leader Gunma. Orange Vikings lost their seventh game in a row. They keep the eighth position with 35 games lost. FE Nagoya will have a break next round. Orange Vikings will play again at home against the league's second-placed FE Nagoya (#2) and hope to win that game.
