Regular Season Round 49: Hitachi SRT - Ryukyu GK 96-85

The most surprising game was a loss of top-ranked Ryukyu GK (35-12) in Tokyo on Saturday night. Visitors were defeated by fifth ranked Hitachi Sunrockers (32-17) 96-85. It ended at the same time the seven-game winning streak of Ryukyu GK. Hitachi Sunrockers shot 31 for 43 from the free-throw line, while Ryukyu GK only scored twelve points from the stripe. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. 30 personal fouls committed by Ryukyu GK helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. Worth to mention a great performance of American Ryan Kelly (211-91, college: Duke) who helped to win the game recording 11 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists. International point guard Leo Vendrame (183-93) contributed with 16 points for the winners. Five Hitachi Sunrockers players scored in double figures. American forward Dwayne Evans (201-92, college: St.Louis, agency: Wasserman) answered with 29 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists and the former international swingman Keita Imamura (191-96) added 11 points and 5 steals in the effort for Ryukyu GK. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Hitachi Sunrockers have an impressive series of eight victories in a row. They maintain fifth place with 32-17 record. Ryukyu GK at the other side still keeps top position with 12 games lost. Hitachi Sunrockers are again looking forward to face league's leader Ryukyu GK in Okinawa in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Ryukyu GK will have a break next round.
