Seventh-ranked Akita Northern Happinets (25-22) gave a tough game to fifth ranked Hitachi Sunrockers (31-17) in Tokyo on Sunday. Hitachi Sunrockers managed to secure only one-point victory 89-88. However their fans expected easier game. Hitachi Sunrockers made 19-of-25 free shots (76.0 percent) during the game. Hitachi Sunrockers outrebounded Akita Northern Happinets 43-28 including 20 on the offensive glass. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. It was a great evening for American center Charles Jackson (208-93, college: Tenn Tech) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 20 points and 19 rebounds. His fellow American import Ryan Kelly (211-91, college: Duke) helped adding 22 points and 7 rebounds. American-Panamanian center Javier Carter (203-91, college: USA, agency: Slash Sports) responded with 25 points and 8 rebounds and American forward Alex Davis (206-92, college: Fresno St.) scored 24 points, 8 rebounds and 4 blocks (on 9-of-11 shooting from the field). Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Hitachi Sunrockers have an impressive series of seven victories in a row. They maintain fifth place with 31-17 record. Akita Northern Happinets lost fourth consecutive game. They keep the seventh position with 22 games lost. Hitachi Sunrockers are looking forward to face higher ranked Chiba J. (#3) on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Akita Northern Happinets will play against Toyama G. (#4) and are hoping to prove to their supporters that they can break losing series.
