Regular Season Round 42: Hitachi SRT - Alvark T. 76-83

Another interesting game was a derby match between two teams from Tokyo: Toyota Alvark (#5) and Hitachi Sunrockers (#6). Hitachi Sunrockers were defeated at home 76-83 and even the fact of playing on their own court did not help. Toyota Alvark players were unselfish on offense dishing 23 assists. American forward Kevin Jones (206-89, college: WVU) notched a double-double by scoring 21 points and 14 rebounds to lead the effort and Greek DeShaun Thomas (201-91, college: Ohio St.) supported him with 23 points and 9 rebounds. Four Toyota Alvark players scored in double figures. Even a double-double of 26 points, 19 rebounds and 4 assists by American center Charles Jackson (208-93, college: Tenn Tech) did not help to save the game for Hitachi Sunrockers. His fellow American import Ryan Kelly (211-91, college: Duke) added 22 points and 6 rebounds. Both coaches tested many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Toyota Alvark (25-17) moved-up to fourth place, which they share with Nagoya DD and Hitachi SRT. Hitachi Sunrockers lost fifth consecutive game. Toyota Alvark's next round opponent will be Kyoto H. (#8) at home. Hitachi Sunrockers will play against Toyama G. (#4) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
