Regular Season Round 41: Osaka E. - Nagoya DD 94-86

The game between third ranked Diamond Dolphins (25-16) and fourth ranked Osaka E. (25-16) was the most important one in the last round on Saturday night. Diamond Dolphins were defeated by Osaka E. in a tough game in Osaka 86-94. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Diamond Dolphins. Osaka E. dominated down low during the game scoring 56 of its points in the paint compared to Diamond Dolphins' 32 and made 17-of-21 free shots (81.0 percent) during the game. They outrebounded Diamond Dolphins 40-28 including 27 on the defensive glass. Osaka E. looked well-organized offensively handing out 30 assists. American guard DJ Newbill (193-92, college: Penn St.) stepped up and scored 23 points, 5 rebounds and 9 assists for the winners and the former international forward Ira Brown (193-82, college: Gonzaga) chipped in 24 points and 10 rebounds. American forward Jeff Ayres (206-87, college: ASU) responded with a double-double by scoring 18 points and 10 rebounds and the former international point guard Takumi Saito (172-95) produced a double-double by scoring 12 points and 11 assists. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Diamond Dolphins' coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Osaka E. have an impressive series of seven victories in a row. They moved-up to third place, which they share with Nagoya DD. Osaka E. is again looking forward to face Diamond Dolphins (#4) in Nagoya in the next round. Diamond Dolphins will have a break next round.
