Very important is a home loss of third ranked Diamond Dolphins (22-15) against seventh ranked Akita Northern Happinets (22-15) on Sunday night. Host Diamond Dolphins were defeated by Akita Northern Happinets in Nagoya 83-65. Akita Northern Happinets dominated down low during the game scoring 54 of its points in the paint compared to Diamond Dolphins' 34. American forward Alex Davis (206-92, college: Fresno St.) nailed a double-double by scoring 17 points, 12 rebounds and 4 blocks for the winning side and the former international swingman Takatoshi Furukawa (190-87) accounted for 20 points and 5 rebounds. Furukawa is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Four Akita Northern Happinets players scored in double figures. American forward Leo Lyons (206-87, college: Missouri) came up with 18 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists and the other American import forward Jeff Ayres (206-87, college: ASU) added 5 points and 13 rebounds respectively for Diamond Dolphins in the defeat. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Akita Northern Happinets moved-up to third place, which they share with Nagoya DD. Akita Northern Happinets will play against league's leader Tochigi B. on the road in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Diamond Dolphins will play against the league's leader Ryukyu GK in Okinawa and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
