Everything could happen at the game between two tied teams. Both sixth ranked Akita Northern Happinets and 5th ranked Toshiba Thunders had identical 18-10 record. This time Akita Northern Happinets used a home court advantage and defeated the opponent from Kanagawa 96-81 on Sunday night. Akita Northern Happinets forced 23 Toshiba Thunders turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 28 assists. The best player for the winners was Bahamas power forward Kadeem Coleby (206-89, college: Wichita St.) who scored 17 points and 9 rebounds (on 7-of-8 shooting from the field). Point guard Masashi Hosoya (173-89) chipped in 18 points and 4 assists. Coleby is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Five Akita Northern Happinets players scored in double figures. The former international power forward Nick Fazekas (211-85, college: Nevada) produced a double-double by scoring 19 points and 12 rebounds and Spanish Pablo Aguilar (203-89) added 10 points and 7 rebounds respectively for the guests. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Akita Northern Happinets (19-10) moved-up to fourth place, which they share with Toyama G. Defending champion Toshiba Thunders dropped to the sixth position with 11 games lost. Akita Northern Happinets will face Hokkaido L. (#10) in Saporro in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Toshiba Thunders will play at home against Hitachi Sunrockers (#3) and hope to win that game.
