Regular Season Round 16: Mahram - Niroo Zamini 86-44
Date: January 19, 2021
Another interesting game was again a derby match of two local teams from Tehran: Mahram (#1) and Niroo Zamini (#7). Mahram (9-0) smashed visiting Niroo Zamini (1-8) by 42 points 86-44. Mahram held Niroo Zamini to an opponent 21.4 percent shooting from the field compared to 56.5 percent accuracy of the winners. Mahram had a 31-20 advantage in offensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists comparing to just 7 passes made by Niroo Zamini's players. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Mahram made 7 blocks. The winners were led by the former international center Meisam Mirzaei (210-92) who scored that evening 8 points, 10 rebounds and 5 assists and the former international power forward Amirhossein Khandanpour (203-98) supported him with 12 points and 7 rebounds. Even 9 points and 6 rebounds by guard Pouya Yakhchali (-96) did not help to save the game for Niroo Zamini. Ali Rostami added 12 points for lost side. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Mahram have an impressive nine-game winning streak. They maintain first position with 9-0 record, which they share with Gorgan. Loser Niroo Zamini keeps the seventh place with eight games lost. They share the position with Raad. Mahram's supporters look forward to another derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Tehran Niroo Zamini.
