Regular Season Round 11: Al Gharafa - Al Rayyan 93-83

The game had a very big importance for second-ranked Al Gharafa as it allowed them to take a leadership position. Al Gharafa defeated bottom-ranked Al Rayyan in Doha 93-83. Al Gharafa looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Al Gharafa made 7 blocks. American guard Franklin Session II (187-89, college: CS Los Angeles) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 26 points, 15 rebounds and 9 assists. His fellow American import center Tyler Harris (208-93, college: Auburn) contributed with a double-double by scoring 11 points, 15 rebounds and 5 assists for the winners. Harris is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Five Al Gharafa players scored in double figures. International center Meho Haracic (213-98) answered with a double-double by scoring 22 points and 18 rebounds and American Musa Abdul-Aleem (196-88, college: Troy) added 32 points in the effort for Al Rayyan. Al Gharafa have a solid series of three victories in a row. As mentioned above they are at the top of the standings, which they share with Al Arabi. Al Rayyan at the other side still closes the standings with ten games lost. Al Rayyan will play next round against strong Al Shamal trying to get back on the winning streak. It will be a derby game for which supporters look forward to, where their team will travel locally in Doha to the arena of Al Shamal. Al Gharafa will try to continue on its current victory against third ranked Al Shamal. It will be extra interesting game as Al Shamal is their local rival from Doha.
