Jordan, India, Japan and Iran advance into quarterfinal stage in Jordan- September 6, 2024Lebanon - India 62-64
India nipped Lebanon to seal their quarterfinal appearance. India recorded a 35-29 halftime lead. They extended the margin at 13-point mark heading into the fourth frame. Lebanon responded with a 22-11 run in the final period but came up just short of win at the end. Ankush Ankush (175-PG-2007) scored 14 points to lead the winners. Anthony Nabaa (200-F-2006), Hadi El Khatib (204-F/C-2007) and Ralph Iskandar (190-G-2007) had 11 points each for Lebanon. Japan - Philippines 85-61 Japan thumped Philippines in the qualification to the quarterfinals. Japan opened a 40-31 halftime lead. They poured in 45 points in the second half and marched to a well-deserved win. Leon Watanabe (207-C/F-2006) posted 15 points, while Riku Segawa (184-PG-2006) contributed 13 points for Japan. Mark Reyes (180-PG-2006) tossed in 16 points for Philippines. Iran - Taiwan 86-73 Iran held off Taiwan to advance into the next round of action in Jordan. Taiwan enjoyed a 22-19 lead after ten minutes. But Iran used a 48-21 rally in the next two periods to spur ahead for good. Taiwan sank 30 points in the final quarter but could not save the game. Mohammad Heydari came up with 20 points, 12 rebounds and 6 assists for Iran. Geng-Hao Liu (197-SF-2007) tossed in 23 points for Taiwan. Jordan - Qatar 91-85 OT Jordan survived a tough overtime battle against Qatar to pace their way into the quarterfinal stage at the championship. Qatar led by 8 points after ten minutes. But Jordan responded with a 51-28 run in the next two quarters to pull ahead. Qatar sank 29 points in the fourth frame to force overtime. However Jordan knocked down 12 points in the extra period to snatch a crucial win. Saif Saleh (F-2006) was pivotal for the hosts with 35 points and 14 rebounds. Abdulla Mousa (184-PG-2008) notched 29 points for Qatar. |
