KSEB (Thiruvananthapuram) entered the women's final of the Feasto all-India basketball tournament, beating Eastern Railway 84-85 in a thrilling semifinal at the V.K. Krishna Menon Indoor Stadium here on Saturday.
In Sunday's final, KSEB will face Southern Railway, Chennai. Late on Friday night, Vijaya Bank (Bengaluru) reached the men's final, after defeating Central Excise, Kochi, 88-58.
The second women's semifinal indeed produced several exciting moments before KSEB hung on to its one-point lead in the last six seconds.
The Railway women, who were behind for most of the match against a more balanced side, had equalised with just two minutes remaining at 79-79, thanks to the conversion of both the free-throws by Anjana Daisy Ekka.
But Grima Merin Baby and P.S. Jeena scored some crucial points to take KSEB to the final. Jeena lived up to her reputation once again, while Grima found the basket when her team needed it most.
Stephy Nixon, P.G. Anjana and Shiji George all did well to ensure that they came out victorious against their spirited rival from Kolkata, for which Madhu Kumari and Seetamani Tudu impressed, along with Anjana Daisy Ekka.
The results (semifinals):
