The Regular Season in CBA is slowly approaching the end. But there may be still some important changes in the final standings in the last 7 rounds. There were many interesting games last round. The round ended with derby games and favorites losing the games. Here is the last round review presented by ESL.

The game had a very big importance for second-ranked Flying Leopards as it allowed them to take a leadership position. Flying Leopards defeated 16th ranked Monkey Kings in Yingkou 111-99. Flying Leopards shot 27 for 38 from the free-throw line, while Monkey Kings only scored ten points from the stripe. They outrebounded Monkey Kings 49-36 including 17 on the offensive glass. 27 personal fouls committed by Monkey Kings helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. The former international Ailun Guo (192-93) fired 31 points and 6 assists for the winners. American forward Brandon Bass (203-85, college: LSU) chipped in 22 points and 10 rebounds (made all of his eight free throws). American guard Joseph Young (188-92, college: Oregon) produced 41 points (!!!), 5 rebounds and 6 assists for lost side. As mentioned above they are at the top of the standings, which they share with Guangdong ST. Monkey Kings at the other side keep the sixteenth place with 29 games lost. Monkey Kings will play next round against Blue Whales trying to get back on the winning streak. Flying Leopards will try to continue on its current victory against thirteenth ranked Jiangsu Dragons in Nanjing.
Top ranked Guandong Tigers (34-5) recorded its fifth loss in Dongguan. Hosts were defeated by ninth ranked Sharks (21-18) 110-104. It ended at the same time the 11-game winning streak of Guandong Tigers. Worth to mention a great performance of American point guard Jimmer Fredette (188-89, college: BYU) who helped to win the game recording 43 points (!!!), 9 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 steals. Luis Scola contributed with 20 points and 10 rebounds for the winners. The former international Jianlian Yi (212-87) replied with 28 points and 9 rebounds for Guandong Tigers. Guandong Tigers' coach rotated eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. Sharks have a solid three-game winning streak. They moved-up to eighth place, which they share with Shandong GS. Guandong Tigers at the other side still keep top position with five games lost. They share it with Liaoning FL. Sharks will play against higher ranked Zhejiang Guangsha Lions (#4) in Hangzhou in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Guandong Tigers will play at home against Golden Bulls and hope to get back on the winning track.
We should mention about the upset which took place in Beijing, where higher ranked Beijing Ducks (26-13) lost at home to tenth ranked Long-Lions (20-19) 93-97 on Tuesday. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Beijing Ducks. Worth to mention a great performance of Kyle Fogg who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 34 points (!!!), 11 rebounds and 7 assists. At the losing side Aaron Jackson responded with a double-double by scoring 32 points, 10 rebounds and 6 assists. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Long-Lions maintains tenth position with 20-19 record, which they share with Zhejiang Ch. Loser Beijing Ducks dropped to the sixth place with 13 games lost. Long-Lions will meet at home Brave Dragons (#14) in the next round. Beijing Ducks' supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Beijing to the arena Fly Dragons.
An interesting game took place in Hangzhou, where higher ranked Zhejiang Guangsha Lions (28-10) lost to eleventh ranked Golden Bulls (20-19) in a road game 102-113. The winners were led by Marcus Denmon who scored that evening 41 points (!!!), 5 rebounds and 7 assists. Golden Bulls have a solid four-game winning streak. They moved-up to tenth place, which they share with Guangzhou LL. Zhejiang Guangsha Lions at the other side keep the fourth position with ten games lost. Golden Bulls' next round opponent will be league's second-placed Guandong Tigers in Dongguan and they do not belong to the favorites in that game. Zhejiang Guangsha Lions will play at home against Sharks and hope to win that game.
The game with biggest result difference took place in Nanjing. Local Jiangsu Dragons (19-20) outscored 19th ranked Blue Whales (8-30) 120-96 on Tuesday night. Donald Sloan fired 41 points (!!!), 5 rebounds and 6 assists for the winners. Jiangsu Dragons maintains thirteenth position with 19-20 record. Blue Whales lost fifth consecutive game. They keep the nineteenth place with 30 games lost. Jiangsu Dragons will face league's leader Flying Leopards in Yingkou in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game. Blue Whales will play at home against Monkey Kings (#16) and hope to win that game.

Rest of the games of round 40 were quite predictable and ended without any surprises. Here they are:
bottom-ranked Beijing Dragons were defeated by Shandong GS in Jinan 117-99. Xinjiang FT beat Shanxi Z. at home 120-115. Qingdao E. lost to Jilin NE T. on the opponent's court 109-121. Fujian S. outscored Tianjin GL in a home game 135-112. Shenzhen L. managed to beat Bayi R. on the road 122-108.
The best stats of 40th round was 52 points (!!!), 5 rebounds and 9 assists by Taylor Rochestie of Tianjin GL.



Shandong GS - Beijing Dragons 117-99

There was no surprise in Jinan where 20th ranked Fly Dragons (7-32) were defeated by eighth ranked Golden Stars (21-18) 117-99 on Tuesday. Golden Stars dominated down low during the game scoring 78 of its points in the paint compared to Fly Dragons' 54. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists. Fly Dragons were plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. Lithuanian power forward Donatas Motiejunas (213-90) fired a double-double by scoring 33 points (!!!) and 14 rebounds for the winners. American point guard Ty Lawson (180-87, college: N.Carolina) chipped in a double-double by scoring 26 points and 10 assists. American Thomas Robinson (208-91, college: Kansas) produced a double-double by scoring 28 points, 19 rebounds and 4 assists (made all of his eleven free throws !!!) and his fellow American import swingman Ricky Ledo (201-92, college: Providence) added 18 points and 6 rebounds respectively for lost side. Five Golden Stars and four Fly Dragons players scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Golden Stars maintains eighth position with 21-18 record, which they share with Shanghai S. Fly Dragons lost fifteenth consecutive game. They stay dead last with 32 lost games. Golden Stars will face Gold Lions (#17) in Tianjin in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Fly Dragons' supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Beijing Beijing Ducks.

No shocking result in a game in Urumqi where sixth ranked Xinjiang Flying Tige (26-12) defeated 14th ranked Brave Dragons (14-25) 120-115 on Tuesday. However just five-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. Xinjiang Flying Tige looked well-organized offensively handing out 26 assists. Brave Dragons were plagued by 30 personal fouls down the stretch. American forward Jarnell Stokes (201-94, college: Tennessee) fired a double-double by scoring 30 points, 19 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners. International Abudushalamu Abudurexiti (203-96) chipped in 26 points. American Shabazz Muhammad (198-92, college: UCLA) produced a double-double by scoring 28 points and 11 rebounds and his fellow American import point guard Bobby Brown (188-84, college: CS Fullerton) added 27 points and 8 assists (made all of his eleven free throws !!!) respectively for lost side. Four Xinjiang Flying Tige and five Brave Dragons players scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players in such tough game. Jilin Tigers made 16-of-20 free shots (80.0 percent) during the game. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 28 assists. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Jilin Tigers made 7 blocks. American guard Dominique Jones (193-88, college: S.Florida) fired a triple-double by scoring 44 points (!!!), 14 rebounds and 14 assists for the winners. Polish-Swedish power forward Maciej Lampe (211-85) chipped in a double-double by scoring 14 points, 10 rebounds and 6 assists. American point guard Jonathan Gibson (188-87, college: N.Mexico St.) produced 36 points (!!!), 7 rebounds and 8 assists (made all of his twelve free throws !!!) and his fellow American import power forward Dakari Johnson (213-95, college: Kentucky) added 17 points and 9 rebounds respectively for lost side. Not a big story in a game in Ningbo where 18th ranked Bayi Rockets (9-30) were defeated by third ranked Leopards (30-9) 122-108 on Wednesday. Leopards shot 62.9 percent from the field and made 20-of-26 free shots (76.9 percent) during the game. Leopards had a 28-17 advantage in offensive rebounds. They shot the lights out from three sinking 14 long-distance shots on high 51.9 percentage. Leopards looked well-organized offensively handing out 29 assists comparing to just 12 passes made by Bayi Rockets' players. Bayi Rockets were plagued by 26 personal fouls down the stretch. The former international forward QuAn Gu (202-92) fired 27 points and 5 rebounds for the winners. The former international center MuHao Li (218-92) chipped in 12 points and 8 rebounds. International guard Lei Meng (193-95) produced 22 points and 8 rebounds and guard Zuming Zhang (205-95) added 19 points and 9 rebounds respectively for lost side. Both teams had five players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Leopards maintains third position with 30-9 record having four points less than leader Liaoning FL. Loser Bayi Rockets dropped to the seventeenth place with 30 games lost.
