There was a minor upset when second-ranked Qatar Club (9-3) lost to fourth ranked Al Shamal (9-3) in Doha 67-72 on Monday. Al Shamal looked well-organized offensively handing out 34 assists. It was an exceptional evening for Egyptian power forward Moustafa Elmekawi (204-1994) who led the winners with a triple-double by scoring 19 points, 23 rebounds and 23 assists. Palestinian-Canadian forward Shane Osayande (200-1993, college: Saskatchewan) accounted for 15 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists for the winning side. Four Al Shamal players scored in double figures. American guard Brian Halums (196-1997, college: UAFS) came up with 20 points, 9 rebounds, 9 assists and 4 steals and the other American import guard Holland Woods II (185, college: GCU, agency: Octagon Europe) added 16 points, 7 rebounds, 7 assists and 5 steals respectively for Qatar Club in the defeat. Al Shamal moved-up to second place, which they share with Al Rayyan and Qatar Club. Al Shamal's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Doha to the arena Al Ahli.
