The game between closely ranked teams ended with fourth ranked Al Rayyan's (7-3) road victory over 5th ranked Al Arabi (5-5) 89-70 on Monday. Al Rayyan forced 24 Al Arabi turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 28 assists. Senegalese power forward Mouhammad Faye (207-1985, college: SMU) scored 19 points, 9 rebounds and 9 assists to lead the charge for the winners and American guard Malik Curry (185-1999, college: WVU, agency: Green Sports Management) chipped in 14 points, 6 rebounds, 6 assists and 8 steals during the contest. Al Rayyan's coach Stergios Koufos used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. At the losing side American-Nigerian guard Kelechi Ajukwa (201-1995, college: Charlotte) responded with 25 points, 6 rebounds, 6 assists and 4 steals and American Xavier Ford (203-1993, college: Buffalo) scored 16 points, 9 rebounds and 9 assists. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Al Rayyan have a solid three-game winning streak. They maintain fourth position with 7-3 record. Al Arabi lost third consecutive game. They keep the fifth place with five games lost. Al Rayyan will meet at home bottom-ranked Al Khor (#9) in the next round where they are favorite.
