Regular Season Round 5: Al Shamal - Al Rayyan 91-96

Undefeated Al Shamal (3-1) recorded its first loss in Doha on Tuesday night. Hosts were defeated by fifth ranked Al Rayyan (3-2) 96-91. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Al Shamal. Al Rayyan forced 20 Al Shamal turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 27 assists. The best player for the winners was Ibrahima Seck who scored 17 points, 9 rebounds and 9 assists. American guard Malik Curry (185-1999, college: WVU, agency: Green Sports Management) chipped in a double-double by scoring 23 points and 4 assists. Egyptian power forward Moustafa Elmekawi (204-1994) produced a triple-double by scoring 17 points, 16 rebounds and 16 assists and Serbian forward Aleksandar Mitrovic (203-1990) added 23 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists (was perfect 7-for-7 from the free throw line) respectively for the hosts. Five Al Rayyan and four Al Shamal players scored in double figures. Al Rayyan moved-up to fourth place, which they share with Al Wakrah. Al Shamal at the other side keeps the second position with one game lost. They share it with Qatar Club. Al Rayyan will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Al Shamal's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Doha to the arena Qatar Club.
