Regular Season Round 14: Al Rayyan - Al Ahli 91-111

Bottom-ranked Al Rayyan (0-5) tried to put together a comeback for its first victory of the season, but they fell short in the 111-91 loss to sixth ranked Al Ahli (3-2) in Doha. They dominated down low during the game scoring 80 of its points in the paint compared to Al Rayyan's 42. They outrebounded Al Rayyan 45-17 including a 19-4 advantage in offensive rebounds. Al Ahli players were unselfish on offense dishing 34 assists comparing to just 21 passes made by Al Rayyan's players. American forward Antwaine Wiggins (203-88, college: Charleston, agency: BIG) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 60 points (!!!), 11 rebounds and 4 assists (was perfect 7-for-7 from the free throw line). The former international swingman Khalid Suliman Abdi (198-87) contributed with a double-double by scoring 16 points, 10 rebounds and 9 assists for the winners. Four Al Ahli players scored in double figures. Al Ahli's coach Panagiotis Foteinakis used entire bench which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. DR Congolese-Canadian guard Myck Kabongo (190-92, college: Texas) replied with a double-double by scoring 42 points (!!!), 6 rebounds, 11 assists and 4 steals and American Tavarion Nix (201-92, college: Midwestern St.) added 18 points and 8 rebounds in the effort for Al Rayyan. Al Ahli moved-up to third place, which they share with Al Sadd. Al Rayyan at the other side still closes the standings with five games lost. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.
