Regular Season Round 10: Al Rayyan - Al Wakrah 80-85

Bottom-ranked Al Rayyan (0-9) tried to put together a comeback for its first victory of the season, but they fell short in the 85-80 loss to third ranked Al Wakrah (7-2) in Doha. Al Wakrah outrebounded Al Rayyan 38-22 including a 30-18 advantage in defensive rebounds. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 22 assists. The game was dominated by American players. Forward Nick Stover (198-93, college: USA) notched 29 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists to lead the effort and Julius Coles Jr (193-89, college: Canisius) supported him with 31 points and 6 rebounds. Stover is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Even 34 points (!!!) (made all of his eight free throws) by Musa Abdul-Aleem (196-88, college: Troy) did not help to save the game for Al Rayyan. Tavarion Nix (201-92, college: Midwestern St.) added 25 points and 7 rebounds for lost side. Al Wakrah have a solid three-game winning streak. They maintain third position with 7-2 record behind leader Al Arabi. Al Rayyan at the other side still closes the standings with nine games lost. Al Wakrah's next round opponent will be Al Shamal (#5) in Doha. Al Rayyan's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Doha to the arena Al Gharafa.
