Regular Season Round 10: Meralco Bolts - Ginebra Kings 79-66
Date: September 23, 2021
Another interesting game was a derby match between two teams from Manila: Meralco Bolts (#2) and Ginebra Kings (#8). Meralco Bolts (9-2) won against visiting Ginebra Kings (4-7) 79-66. They outrebounded Ginebra Kings 58-34 including a 22-6 advantage in offensive rebounds. Meralco Bolts players were unselfish on offense dishing 21 assists. Guard Chris Newsome (187-90, college: Georgetown, KY) notched 10 points, 9 rebounds and 6 assists to lead the effort and Kier Quinto (188-95) supported him with 8 points, 9 rebounds and 8 assists. Even a double-double of 17 points, 14 rebounds and 4 assists by naturalized German forward Christian Standhardinger (206-89, college: Hawaii) did not help to save the game for Ginebra Kings. Naturalized American point guard Stanley Pringle (184-87, college: Penn St., agency: Pensack Sports) added 19 points and 4 steals for lost side. Both coaches tested many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Meralco Bolts have a solid four-game winning streak. They maintain second position with 9-2 record behind leader TNT Ka Tropa. Ginebra Kings at the other side keep the eighth place with seven games lost. They share the position with Terrafirma Dyip and Phoenix.
