Regular Season Round 8: Astana - Tobol 95-45

Very important is a road loss of second ranked Tobol (10-8) against fourth ranked Astana (7-5) on Wednesday night. Visiting Tobol was crushed by Astana in Nur-Sultan 95-45. Astana held Tobol to an opponent 24.6 percent shooting from the field compared to 47.4 percent accuracy of the winners. Astana forced 22 Tobol turnovers and outrebounded them 50-28 including a 35-23 advantage in defensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists comparing to just 6 passes made by Tobol's players. Worth to mention a great performance of Russian swingman Daniil Aksenov (183-1995) who helped to win the game recording 19 points, 9 rebounds and 7 assists and Russian Valeriy Likhodey (205-1986) who added 19 points during the contest. Four Astana players scored in double figures. Astana's coach Oleg Kiselev felt very confident that he used entire bench which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Russian power forward Kirill Gornaev (202-1996) responded with 6 points and 15 rebounds and international point guard Shaim Kuanov (181-1991) scored 14 points. Astana have a solid three-game winning streak. Defending champion maintains fourth position with 7-5 record. Tobol lost third consecutive game. They keep the second place with eight games lost. Astana will meet at home bottom-ranked Aktobe (#5) in the next round. Tobol will play against Irbis and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
