Regular Season Round 50: Yamaguchi - Saitama 68-91
Date: April 8, 2023
There was no surprise when 15th ranked Yamaguchi (13-38) was outleveled at home by second ranked Saitama (42-9) 91-68 on Saturday. Saitama outrebounded Yamaguchi 61-34 including a 46-25 advantage in defensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. American power forward Ryan Watkins (206-1991, college: Boise St., agency: Slash Sports) notched a double-double by scoring 18 points and 31 rebounds to lead the effort and the other American import Grant Sitton (206-1993, college: Victoria) supported him with 11 points, 9 rebounds and 7 assists. Even 15 points by point guard Rikiya Yamaguchi (180-1996) did not help to save the game for Yamaguchi. Nigerian forward Anthony Enoh (198-2003) added 7 points and 11 rebounds for the hosts. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Saitama maintains second position with 42-9 record having just two points less than leader Iwate. Yamaguchi lost third consecutive game. They keep the fifteenth place with 38 games lost. Saitama will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Yamaguchi will play again against the league's second-placed Saitama (#2) and hope to secure a win.
