Regular Season Round 38: Gifu - Iwate 71-97

There was no surprise when 9th ranked Gifu (15-24) was outleveled at home by second ranked Iwate (34-5) 97-71 on Saturday. Beninese power forward Muusa Dama (207-1996, college: EIU, agency: Blacktop Management) notched a double-double by scoring 24 points and 11 rebounds (on 10-of-13 shooting from the field) to lead the effort and American forward Kristian Doolittle (201-1997, college: Oklahoma, agency: Pensack Sports) supported him with 19 points and 8 rebounds. Even 24 points and 9 rebounds by American forward Jerrell Wright (204-1991, college: La Salle) did not help to save the game for Gifu. Senegalese power forward Andre Sambou (203-1999) added 6 points and 13 rebounds for the hosts. Five Iwate and four Gifu players scored in double figures. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Iwate have an impressive five-game winning streak. They maintain second position with 34-5 record behind leader Shizuoka. Gifu lost fourth consecutive game. They keep the ninth place with 24 games lost. Iwate will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Gifu will play again against the league's second-placed Iwate (#2) and hope to secure a win.
