Regular Season Round 39: Yamagata - Nishinomiya S. 72-73

Fifth-ranked Yamagata (15-20) used its home court advantage to challenge third ranked Nishinomiya S. (20-11) on Sunday. The visitors from Hyogo managed to secure only one-point victory 73-72. However their fans expected easier game. It was a great shooting night for Nishinomiya S. especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 53.3 percentage. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. It was a good game for American Shaquille Hines (203-1993, college: UTRGV) who saved his team from a defeat with 18 points and 8 rebounds. Senegalese center Cheikh Mbodj (208-1987, college: Cincinnati, agency: Octagon Europe) contributed with 15 points and 9 rebounds for the winners. American center Kenny Lawson (207-1988, college: Creighton) answered with a double-double by scoring 20 points, 15 rebounds and 5 assists and the other American import forward Jawad Williams (204-1983, college: UNC) added 18 points and 9 rebounds in the effort for Yamagata. Four Yamagata players scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Nishinomiya S. have an impressive series of seven victories in a row. They maintain third place with 20-11 record having fourteen points less than leader Kagawa FA. Yamagata lost seventh consecutive game. They keep the fifth position with 20 games lost. Nishinomiya S. are looking forward to face Bambitious N. (#7) in Nara in the next round. Yamagata will play on the road against the league's second-placed Fukushima and is hoping to prove to their supporters that they can break losing series.
