Regular Season Round 33: Sendai 89ers - Yamagata 76-67

There was no surprise when 5th ranked Yamagata (15-16) was defeated on the road by third ranked Sendai 89ers (21-12) 76-67 on Saturday. Sendai 89ers made 21-of-26 free shots (80.8 percent) during the game. The game was dominated by American players. The best player for the winners was forward Justin Burrell (207-88, college: St.John's) who had a double-double by scoring 20 points and 14 rebounds (on 8-of-9 shooting from the field). Devin Oliver (204-92, college: Dayton) chipped in a double-double by scoring 10 points and 12 rebounds. Four Sendai 89ers players scored in double figures. Sendai 89ers' coach Hiroki Fujita used entire bench and allowed the starting five to rest. At the other side the best for losing team was center Kenny Lawson (207-88, college: Creighton) who recorded a double-double by scoring 22 points and 12 rebounds and forward Jawad Williams (204-83, college: UNC) added 15 points respectively. Sendai 89ers maintains third place with 21-12 record having two points less than leader Kagawa FA. Yamagata lost third consecutive game. They keep the fifth position with 16 games lost. Sendai 89ers are again looking forward to face Yamagata (#5) at home in the next round. Yamagata will have a break next round.
