Regular Season Round 5: Iwate - Gifu 109-57

B3 League top team - Iwate (9-1) had no problems winning another game on Sunday. This time they crushed fifth ranked Gifu (5-5) 109-57. Iwate dominated down low during the game scoring 74 of its points in the paint compared to Gifu's 32. They outrebounded Gifu 43-26 including a 33-18 advantage in defensive rebounds. Iwate looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists comparing to just 10 passes made by Gifu's players. Canadian forward Erik Nissen (206-95, college: Acadia) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 26 points and 12 rebounds. American forward Chris Olivier (202-92, college: OK State) contributed with 22 points and 9 rebounds (on 10-of-12 shooting from the field) for the winners. Five Iwate players scored in double figures. Canadian forward Mamadou Gueye (201-93, college: Alberta) answered with 13 points and 7 rebounds and American forward Alex Floresca (203-96, college: San Diego) added 10 points and 5 rebounds in the effort for Gifu. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. The victory was the sixth consecutive win for Iwate. They maintain first place with 9-1 record. Loser Gifu dropped to the sixth position with five games lost. Iwate will face Tokyo EX (#7) on the road in the next round which should be theoretically another easy game. Gifu will play against Kagoshima and hope to win that game.
