Very expected game in Nagoya where 9th ranked Niigata A. (9-23) was defeated by third ranked Diamond Dolphins (19-13) 78-73 on Sunday. However just five-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. The best player for the winners was American forward Jeff Ayres (206-87, college: ASU) who had a double-double by scoring 23 points and 14 rebounds. The other American import forward Leo Lyons (206-87, college: Missouri) chipped in a double-double by scoring 16 points and 10 rebounds. American-North Macedonian power forward Richard Hendrix (203-86, college: Alabama) produced 21 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists and American-Bulgarian center Jason Washburn (213-90, college: Utah, agency: Pensack Sports) added 14 points and 11 rebounds respectively for the guests. Both coaches allowed to play bench players in such tough game. Diamond Dolphins have a solid three-game winning streak. They maintain third position with 19-13 record having four points less than leader Tochigi B., which they share with Alvark T. Niigata A. lost fifth consecutive game. They keep the ninth place with 23 games lost. Diamond Dolphins will face San-en NeoPhoenix (#9) in Hamamatsu in the next round where they are favorite. Niigata A. will play on the road against the league's leader Tochigi B. and hope to win that game.
