There was no surprise in Nanjing where 18th ranked Blue Whales (10-29) were defeated by fourteenth ranked Jiangsu Dragons (18-22) 124-112 on Thursday. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Jiangsu Dragons made 8 blocks. It was a great evening for American guard Antonio Blakeney (193-1996, college: LSU) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 48 points (!!!), 14 rebounds and 6 assists. The former international Zhixuan Liu (197-1991) helped adding 16 points and 6 assists. Five Jiangsu Dragons players scored in double figures. At the losing side American point guard Marlain Veal (175-1996, college: SE Louisiana) responded with 32 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists and Zhennian Zuo (201-1996) scored 14 points and 9 rebounds. Both coaches tested many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Jiangsu Dragons moved-up to thirteenth place. Blue Whales lost fourth consecutive game. They keep the eighteenth position with 29 games lost. Jiangsu Dragons will meet at home Sturgeons (#17) in the next round. Blue Whales will play against Eagles in Qingdao and hope to secure a win.
