There was a surprise result in Tianjin where nineteenth ranked Pioneers (7-22) won against higher ranked Guangsha Lions (15-15) 94-83 on Thursday. Pioneers made 16-of-21 free shots (76.2 percent) during the game. The best player for the winners was Taiwanese guard Benson Lin (193-1999, college: Bryant) who scored 30 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists. American guard Quinndary Weatherspoon (190-1996, college: MSU) chipped in a double-double by scoring 20 points and 11 rebounds. Four Pioneers players scored in double figures. The former international center Jinqiu Hu (211-1997) produced a double-double by scoring 25 points and 11 rebounds and Canadian power forward Kyle Wiltjer (206-1992, college: Gonzaga) added 16 points respectively for the guests. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Pioneers moved-up to seventeenth place, which they share with Sichuan BW and Fujian S. Loser Guangsha Lions dropped to the twelfth position with 15 games lost. Pioneers will meet at home higher ranked Jiangsu Dragons (#13) in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Guangsha Lions will play against the league's second-placed Guandong Tigers and will have a slim chance for a victory.
