Zob Ahan claimed the second straight win at the WABA League preliminary round. They knocked down Tilal to improve at 2-0 record in Group A. Loren Woods (218-C-78, college: Arizona) stepped up with 22 points and 12 rebounds to pace the Iranian team. Tilal in the meantime fell at 0-3 record.
Zob Ahan grabbed the initiative right from the start. They claimed a 28:11 lead ten minutes into the game. Zob Ahan stayed in front throughout the second quarter. They piled up a comfortable 49:23 halftime cushion. The margin grew at 30-point mark at the final break and Zob Ahan cruised to the victory at the end. Karam Ahmadian (197-F-77) scored 18 points, while Oshin Sahakian (200-F-86) and Emad Salmani (188-G-90, agency: SportsList Inc.) netted 13 points each in the win. Mamady Macalou (194-G/F-79) nailed 19 points and 7 rebounds for Tilal. Ahmed Abdulghafor (200-C-88) banked 13 points in the loss.
