VBA Round 3 (Regular Season): Dolphins lose to Buffaloes

After 3 rounds played we can already see who rules in the VBA and who belongs to weaker ones. Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.

The most crucial game of the last round was a loss of Dolphins (3-1) in Nha Trang on Saturday night. Hosts were edged by Buffaloes (5-0) 77-76. Strangely Dolphins outrebounded Buffaloes 56-41 including a 25-11 advantage in offensive rebounds. Americans were the main players on the court. It was a great evening for swingman Tamyrik Fields (198-1996, college: Augusta, agency: Interperformances) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 37 points (!!!) and 15 rebounds. Forward Hassan Thomas (203-1996, college: Emporia St.) helped adding 13 points, 14 rebounds and 4 assists. The best for the losing side was power forward John Fields (205-1988, college: Tennessee) with a double-double by scoring 22 points and 22 rebounds. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.
The game in Ho Chi Minh was also worth to mention about. Catfish (2-2) played at the court of Wings (0-4). Catfish defeated Wings 76-65. It was an exceptional evening for American forward Malek Green (201-1999, college: YSU) who led the winners with a double-double by scoring 38 points (!!!), 13 rebounds and 4 assists. Dajuan Madden accounted for 13 points, 12 rebounds, 7 assists and 4 steals. The former international guard Khoa Dang Tran Dang (183-1997) came up with 26 points and 4 assists for City Wings in the defeat. Catfish will play against Heat in Saigon in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Wings will play on the road against Dragons (#5) in Danang and hope to get finally their first victory.
The game in Ho Chi Minh was also quite interesting. Heat (3-0) played at the court of Wings (0-4). Heat did not have too big problems and got a relatively easy victory 88-69 on Sunday. The best player for the winners was Davon Dillard who had a double-double by scoring 12 points, 14 rebounds and 9 assists. At the other side the best for losing team was Darrius Austin who recorded a double-double by scoring 18 points and 19 rebounds. Both coaches tested many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Heat will meet at home Catfish (#4) in the next round. Wings will play against Dragons in Danang and look forward to get finally their first victory.

In the last game of round 3 winless Islanders lost to Dragons on the opponent's court 92-103.



City Wings - Catfish 65-76

The game in Ho Chi Minh was also worth to mention about. Catfish (2-2) played at the court of Wings (0-4). Catfish defeated Wings 76-65. Catfish dominated down low during the game scoring 58 of its points in the paint compared to Wings' 36. Catfish outrebounded City Wings 43-32 including 31 on the defensive glass. It was an exceptional evening for American forward Malek Green (201-1999, college: YSU) who led the winners with a double-double by scoring 38 points (!!!), 13 rebounds and 4 assists. His fellow American import guard Dajuan Madden (188-1996, college: PVAMU) accounted for 13 points, 12 rebounds, 7 assists and 4 steals for the winning side. The former international guard Khoa Dang Tran Dang (183-1997) came up with 26 points and 4 assists and Filipino point guard James Martinez (170-1987) added 21 points respectively for City Wings in the defeat. Dragons - Islanders 103-92

Rather expected game in Danang where Islanders (0-5) were defeated by Dragons (1-2) 103-92 on Friday. Dragons outrebounded Islanders 52-29 including a 21-10 advantage in offensive rebounds. Dragons looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. The best player for the winners was American forward Karachi Edo (196-1994, college: Fresno St.) who had a double-double by scoring 29 points and 14 rebounds. His fellow American import Timothy Simmons (195-1992, college: DBU) chipped in a double-double by scoring 20 points, 5 rebounds and 10 assists. Edo is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Dragons' coach used an eleven-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. At the other side the best for losing team was Filipino Algin Andaya (-1997) who recorded 24 points and 5 rebounds and French center Alioune Tew (204-1992, college: Niagara, agency: HB-Spain) added 14 points and 14 rebounds respectively. Four Dragons and five Islanders players scored in double figures. Dragons will meet at home City Wings (#6) in the next round. Islanders will have a break next round.
