The most exciting game of round 23 in the VBA took place in Nha Trang. This derby game ended with only one-point home defeat of 4th placed Dolphins (9-7) to third ranked Buffaloes (10-5) 81-80 on Tuesday evening. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Dolphins. Buffaloes forced 19 Dolphins turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 26 assists. It was a great evening for American forward Ruot Monyyong (210-1998, college: UALR) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 26 points and 13 rebounds (on 9-of-11 shooting from the field). Cong Dinh Tien (186-1996) helped adding 9 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists. Buffaloes' coach used entire bench in such tough game. American forward Mykal Jenkins (202-2000, college: St.Petersburg) responded with a double-double by scoring 39 points (!!!) and 16 rebounds. Buffaloes have a solid series of three victories in a row. They moved-up to second place, which they share with Catfish. Dolphins at the other side keep the fourth position with seven games lost. Buffaloes is looking forward to face league's second-placed Catfish in Can Tho in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Dolphins will have a break next round.
Bottom-ranked Wings managed to get a second victory, breaking the series of nine consecutive losses. This time they won against fifth-ranked Dragons in Ho Chi Minh 97-88. Americans were the main players on the court. It was an exceptional evening for forward Chrishon Briggs (195-1995, college: CSUB) who led the winners with a double-double by scoring 38 points (!!!), 13 rebounds and 5 assists. Maurice Gordon accounted for 29 points and 5 rebounds. Guard Marquis Davison (196-2000, college: Columbus St., agency: Worldwide SM) came up with 22 points and 8 rebounds for Dragons in the defeat. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. City Wings maintains sixth place with 2-14 record. Dragons lost fourth consecutive game. They keep the fifth position with 12 games lost. City Wings will again play against higher ranked Dragons (#5) in Danang in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Dragons will have a break next round.
