Robert Sampson gets MVP of the Week award for Vietnamese VBA (by Hoops Agents)- September 5, 2023
The 31-year old forward had a double-double of 35 points and seventeen rebounds, while his team beat Buffaloes (#2, 13-5) 80-72. The game was between two of the league's top four teams. Dolphins maintains the 3rd position in Vietnamese VBA. They would have been even better if they hadn't lost a few games earlier this season. Dolphins will need more victories to improve their 12-6 record. In the team's last game Sampson had a remarkable 80.0% from 2-point range. He turned to be Dolphins' top player in his first season with the team. Georgia Institute of Technology graduate has very impressive stats this year. Sampson is in league's top in points (7th best: 22.8ppg), rebounds (4th best: 14.9rpg) and averages solid 2.1bpg and 67.1% FGP. Worth to mention Sampson played also at Eurobasket Summer League, which helped him get the job in pro basketball. The second most remarkable performance in last round's games was young American forward Udun Osakue (198-F-1992, agency: Interperformances) of second-ranked Buffaloes. Osakue impressed basketball fans with a double-double of 29 points and 15 rebounds. Bad luck as Buffaloes lost that game 72-80 to slightly lower-ranked Dolphins (#3, 12-6). It was definitely game of the week between two contenders to the title. Buffaloes still maintains its place in the top 2 of the standings, even despite this loss. His team's 13-5 record is not bad at all. Osakue is a newcomer at Buffaloes and it seems he did not have too much trouble to become one of team's leaders. The third best performed player last round was American Kentrell Barkley (195-G/F-1996, agency: Haylett Sports) of top-ranked Saigon Heat. Barkley showcased his all-around game by recording 26 points, eleven rebounds (!!!) and nine assists in the last round. He was a key player of Saigon Heat, leading his team to a 98-91 win against the lower-ranked City Wings (#6, 6-12). Saigon Heat confirms their top position in the standings. Their record at this point is 14 victories and 4 lost games. Barkley has a great season in Vietnam. After 17 games, he made it on the list of the league's leaders in points with 30.2ppg (best scorer), rebounds with 15.7rpg (3rd best) and assists with 6.8apg (2nd best). He also has 1.4bpg and FGP: 64.5%. Other top performing players last week: 4. Yevgen Sakhniuk (201-F-1995) of City Wings - 29 points, 12 rebounds and 5 assists 5. Jeremy Smith (190-G-1991) of City Wings - 27 points, 6 rebounds and 7 assists 6. Madarious Gibbs (185-G-1993) of Dolphins - 20 points, 8 rebounds and 14 assists 7. Phu Vinh Nguyen (203-F/C-1998) of Saigon Heat - 15 points and 13 rebounds 8. Cong Dinh Tien (186-SG-1996) of Buffaloes - 12 points, 4 rebounds and 5 assists 9. Tu Hoang (170-G-2001) of Saigon Heat - 17 points and 2 assists 10. Hien Pham (182-G-2000) of City Wings - 12 points, 4 rebounds and 4 assists The Player of the week is selected based on efficiency calculation, but also including game result, importance of the game, if played recorded double-double/triple-double, etc. The efficiency formula is a combination of various formulas used by different basketball organizations/leagues. We got involved many basketball scouts and journalists to assure it's accuracy. The formula: 1.5*PTS + 3* (REB+AST+ST+BL-TO) - 2*BSAG - 4*PF + 3*PFRV + 4* (2FGPM+3FGPM) + 1.5*FTM - 3* (2FGPA-2FGPM) - 3* (3FGPA-3FGPM) - (FTA-FTM)
