VBA Round 27: Buffaloes lose to Catfish- August 26, 2023
The Regular Season in VBA is slowly approaching the end. But there may be still some important changes in the final standings in the last 3 rounds. Coincidentally all hosts won their games. Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.
Catfish - Buffaloes 70-59 Top ranked Buffaloes (13-4) recorded its fourth loss in Can Tho on Friday night. Visitors were defeated by sixth ranked Catfish (6-10) 70-59. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Buffaloes. Catfish forced 20 Buffaloes turnovers. The best player for the winners was American forward Joshua Keyes (201-1995, college: Muskingum, agency: PBAplayers Agency) who had a double-double by scoring 19 points, 17 rebounds and 5 assists. His fellow American import guard Brachon Griffin (185-1992, college: ECSU) chipped in 20 points, 8 rebounds and 6 assists. Keyes is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. At the other side the best for losing team was American Anthony January (204-1993, college: CSUSB, agency: Interperformances) who recorded a double-double by scoring 11 points and 14 rebounds and American-Nigerian forward Udun Osakue (198-1992, college: SF State, agency: Interperformances) added 11 points, 11 rebounds and 4 assists respectively. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Catfish moved-up to fifth place. Buffaloes at the other side still keep top position with four games lost. Catfish are looking forward to face higher ranked Dolphins (#3) in Nha Trang in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Buffaloes will have a break next round. They used home court advantage to defeat Wings (6-11) 104-83. Dragons made 19-of-25 charity shots (76.0 percent) during the game. Dragons outrebounded Wings 47-34 including 32 on the defensive glass. It was a good game for Canadian forward Will Tran (-1998) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 46 points (!!!) and 10 rebounds. American point guard Jermaine Marrow (183-1997, college: Hampton) contributed with a double-double by scoring 33 points (!!!), 11 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners. Dragons' coach felt very confident that he used 11 players and allowed the starting five to rest. Guard Hien Pham (182-2000) answered with 16 points and 9 rebounds and guard Vinh Nguyen Quang (180-1995) added 21 points in the effort for Wings. Four Wings players scored in double figures. Dragons maintains seventh place with 1-16 record. It was Wings' third loss in a row. They keep the sixth position with 11 games lost. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.
