VBA Round 15: Dragons still unable to win any game

VBA is at the halfway of the Regular Season and there are still another 15 rounds left. Coincidentally all hosts won their games. Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.

Bottom-ranked Dragons (0-9) tried to put together a comeback for its first victory of the season, but they fell short in the 91-82 loss to fourth ranked Warriors (5-5) in Hanoi on Saturday evening. They dominated down low during the game scoring 56 of its points in the paint compared to Dragons' 24. They outrebounded Dragons 49-27 including a 21-4 advantage in offensive rebounds. The game was dominated by American players. The best player for the winners was power forward John Fields (205-1988, college: Tennessee, agency: Octagon Europe) who had a double-double by scoring 28 points and 22 rebounds. Guard Sameen Swint (193-1995, college: GBC) chipped in 28 points and 10 rebounds. Warriors' coach used an eleven-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. At the other side the best for losing team was point guard Jermaine Marrow (183-1997, college: Hampton) who recorded a double-double by scoring 26 points, 10 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals. Warriors maintains fourth place with 5-5 record. Dragons at the other side still closes the standings with nine games lost. Warriors are looking forward to face Wings (#5) in Ho Chi Minh in the next round. Dragons will have a break next round.

In the last game of round 15 City Wings were defeated by Buffaloes in Hanoi 98-93.




Buffaloes - City Wings 98-93

There was no surprise in Hanoi where 5th ranked Wings (3-6) were defeated by second ranked Buffaloes (8-2) 98-93 on Friday. Buffaloes had a 17-4 advantage in offensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. The best player for the winners was American Anthony January (204-1993, college: CSUSB, agency: Interperformances) who scored 32 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists. American-Nigerian forward Udun Osakue (198-1992, college: SF State, agency: Interperformances) chipped in a double-double by scoring 20 points, 12 rebounds and 7 assists. At the other side the best for losing team was American guard Jeremy Smith (190-1991, college: Nicholls St.) who recorded a double-double by scoring 30 points, 11 rebounds and 8 assists (went 8 for 8 at the free throw line) and Ukrainian forward Yevgen Sakhniuk (201-1995, college: Jefferson) added 22 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field) respectively. Four Buffaloes and five Wings players scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Buffaloes have an impressive series of five victories in a row. They maintain second place with 8-2 record having just one point less than leader Saigon Heat. Wings at the other side keep the fifth position with six games lost. Buffaloes will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Wings will play on the road against Warriors (#4) in Hanoi and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
