Anthony January gets MVP of the Week award for Vietnamese VBA- July 14, 2023
The 30-year old power forward had a double-double of 31 points and 31 rebounds, while his team outclassed City Wings (#6, 2-5) with 31-point margin 94-63. Buffaloes is placed at 2nd position in Vietnamese VBA. They would have been even better if they did not have these two lost games earlier in Regular Season. Buffaloes will need more victories to improve their 6-2 record. January has many years of experience at Buffaloes, through which he has constantly improved. California State University San Bernardino graduate has very impressive stats this year. January is in league's top in points (4th best: 26.6ppg) and rebounds (2nd best: 18.3rpg). The second most remarkable performance in last round's games was young American power forward John Fields (205-F/C-1988, agency: Octagon Europe) of Warriors. Fields impressed basketball fans with a double-double of 28 points and 15 rebounds. Of course he led Warriors to another comfortable win outscoring Dragons (#7, 0-7) 94-73. Warriors' 4th position in the standings has not changed. His team's 4-4 record is not bad at all. Fields is one of the most experienced players at Warriors and has a reputation of one of team's most reliable players. He belongs to the best scorers in the league with 23.0ppg (#7). His other stats are also decent: 17.0rpg and 3.5apg. The third best performed player last round was American Jeremy Smith (190-G-1991) of City Wings (#6). Smith scored 25 points and grabbed eight rebounds. Despite Smith's great performance City Wings lost 63-94 to the higher-ranked Buffaloes (#2, 6-2). But his team cannot count on just a single player as he also needs help of the other teammates. City Wings can only dream about fighting for top spots in the league. They have rather bad season and 2-5 record places them close to the bottom of the standings. Too bad for Smith he does not play for a better team. But maybe if he did, his season stats would not be that high. Smith has individually a great season in Vietnam. After only 6 games, he made it on the list of the league's leaders in points with 27.2ppg (2nd best) and assists with 4.7apg (5th best). Other top performing players last week: 4. Sameen Swint (193-G-1995) of Warriors - 25 points, 6 rebounds and 7 assists 5. Udun Osakue (198-F-1992) of Buffaloes - 18 points, 10 rebounds and 5 assists 6. Triet Huynh Andre (191-G-2004) of Dragons - 16 points, 3 rebounds and 2 assists 7. JR Holder (198-SG-1994) of Dragons - 13 points and 10 rebounds 8. Justin Young (193-PF-1993) of Warriors - 10 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists 9. Cong Dinh Tien (186-SG-1996) of Buffaloes - 15 points and 4 assists 10. Will Tran (F-1998) of Dragons - 11 points, 4 rebounds and 2 assists The Player of the week is selected based on efficiency calculation, but also including game result, importance of the game, if played recorded double-double/triple-double, etc. The efficiency formula is a combination of various formulas used by different basketball organizations/leagues. We got involved many basketball scouts and journalists to assure it's accuracy. The formula: 1.5*PTS + 3* (REB+AST+ST+BL-TO) - 2*BSAG - 4*PF + 3*PFRV + 4* (2FGPM+3FGPM) + 1.5*FTM - 3* (2FGPA-2FGPM) - 3* (3FGPA-3FGPM) - (FTA-FTM)
