VBA Round 6: Catfish edge Dragons by two points

Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.

The most exciting game of round 6 in the VBA took place in Can Tho. This derby game ended with only two-point defeat on the road of bottom-ranked Dragons (0-4) to sixth ranked Catfish (1-2) 89-87 on Tuesday evening. The best player for the winners was Thailand point guard Morgan Jakongmee (185-1997) who scored 29 points, 8 rebounds and 6 assists. Filipino point guard Michael Soy (182-1997, college: Algonquin) chipped in 20 points, 8 rebounds and 8 assists. Catfish's coach used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. At the other side the best for losing team was American point guard Jermaine Marrow (183-1997, college: Hampton) who recorded 23 points, 7 rebounds and 9 assists. It was the only win of host team this round and in all other games visitors recorded victories. Catfish left bottom position moving up to fifth place. It was Dragons' fourth loss in a row. They still close the standings with four games lost. Catfish are looking forward to face higher ranked Warriors (#4) in Hanoi in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Dragons will have a break next round.
The game in Ho Chi Minh was also worth to mention about. Third ranked Buffaloes (3-1) played at the court of 6th ranked Wings (1-3). Buffaloes managed to secure a 8-point victory 89-81. It was a good game for American Anthony January (204-1993, college: CSUSB, agency: Interperformances) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 27 points and 11 rebounds. Hoang Nguyen Huy contributed with 21 points and 8 assists for the winners. American guard Jeremy Smith (190-1991, college: Nicholls St.) replied with 33 points (!!!), 9 rebounds and 5 assists for Wings. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Buffaloes have a solid three-game winning streak. They moved-up to second place. Wings lost third consecutive game. They keep the sixth position with three games lost. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.

The best stats of 6th round was 21 points, 19 rebounds and 5 blocks by Amir Williams of City Wings.




Catfish - Dragons 89-87

City Wings - Buffaloes 81-89
