VBA Round 8: Dolphins defeat Heat

There are only two more rounds left in the Regular Season in VBA. Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.

The most crucial game of the last round was a loss of top-ranked Heat (7-2) in Nha Trang on Wednesday night. Visitors were edged by fourth ranked Dolphins (5-4) 76-75. It ended at the same time the seven-game winning streak of Heat. American players dominated the game. point guard Avery Scharer (185-1986, college: Shoreline CC) saved the victory with a double-double by scoring 27 points, 13 rebounds and 4 assists. point guard CJ Jackson (185-1996, college: Ohio St., agency: Blacktop Management) contributed with 16 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists for the winners. Guard Madarious Gibbs (185-1993, college: Texas Southern) replied with a double-double by scoring 28 points, 13 rebounds and 7 assists for Heat. Dolphins maintains fourth position with 5-4 record. Heat at the other side still keeps top place with two games lost. Dolphins are looking forward to face higher ranked Buffaloes (#3) in Hanoi in the next round and it may be the game of the week. Heat will play at home against Warriors and is hoping to win this game.
Another exciting game for Heat (7-2) which played in Ho Chi Minh against Wings (6-3). First ranked Heat won 89-82. It was a key game for the top position in the league. American players dominated also this game. Worth to mention a great performance of guard Madarious Gibbs (185-1993, college: Texas Southern) who helped to win the game recording 39 points (!!!) and 4 assists and Alonzo Stafford who added 17 points, 14 rebounds and 4 assists during the contest. Forward DeSean Parsons (201-1995, college: Portland St.) responded with a triple-double by scoring 19 points, 15 rebounds and 10 assists. Heat have an impressive seven-game winning streak. They maintain first position with 7-2 record. Wings at the other side keep the second place with three games lost. Heat will play against Warriors (#6) in Hanoi in the next round where they are favorite. Wings will play at home against Warriors (#6) and hope to get back on the winning track.
A very close game took place in Hanoi between Buffaloes and Dragons. Third ranked Buffaloes (5-3) got a very close home victory over 5th ranked Dragons (4-7). Buffaloes managed to escape with a 3-point win 86-83 on Sunday evening. It ended at the same time the four-game winning streak of Dragons. The winners were led by Shane Henry who had that evening a double-double by scoring 13 points and 19 rebounds. Buffaloes' coach Eric Weissling used entire bench in such tough game. Even 32 points and 6 assists by Ed Horton did not help to save the game for Dragons. Buffaloes maintains third position with 5-3 record having just three points less than leader Heat. Loser Dragons keep the fifth place with seven games lost. Buffaloes will meet Dolphins (#4) in the next round. Dragons will play against Dolphins in Nha Trang and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

In the last two games of round 8 Dolphins were beaten by Warriors on the road 93-82. City Wings lost to Catfish on its own court 82-88.



City Wings - Heat 82-89

Another exciting game for Heat (7-2) which played in Ho Chi Minh against Wings (6-3). First ranked Heat won 89-82. It was a key game for the top position in the league. Heat made 16-of-21 charity shots (76.2 percent) during the game. American players dominated also this game. Worth to mention a great performance of guard Madarious Gibbs (185-1993, college: Texas Southern) who helped to win the game recording 39 points (!!!) and 4 assists and forward Alonzo Stafford (198-1993, college: CCC) who added 17 points, 14 rebounds and 4 assists during the contest. Warriors - Dolphins 93-82

There was a small surprise when sixth ranked Warriors (3-6) beat 4th ranked Dolphins (5-4) in Hanoi 93-82 on Saturday. Warriors looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. Americans were the main players on the court. The winners were led by guard Clay Guillozet (193-1997, college: Valdosta St.) who had that evening a double-double by scoring 35 points (!!!), 13 rebounds and 5 assists and Garrius Holloman (198-1989, college: BCU) supported him with 24 points and 9 rebounds. Holloman is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Four Warriors players scored in double figures. Warriors' coach Predrag Lukic used entire bench which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Even a double-double of 30 points and 17 rebounds by center Dominique Tham (195-1996, college: Mount Olive) did not help to save the game for Dolphins. Point guard CJ Jackson (185-1996, college: Ohio St., agency: Blacktop Management) added 29 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists for the guests. Warriors maintains sixth position with 3-6 record. Dolphins lost third consecutive game. They keep the fourth place with four games lost. Warriors will meet league's leader Heat in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game. Dolphins will play against Buffaloes and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

Buffaloes - Dragons 86-83

A very close game took place in Hanoi between Buffaloes and Dragons. Third ranked Buffaloes (5-3) got a very close home victory over 5th ranked Dragons (4-7). Buffaloes managed to escape with a 3-point win 86-83 on Sunday evening. It ended at the same time the four-game winning streak of Dragons. They outrebounded Dragons 43-17 including a 17-3 advantage in offensive rebounds. The winners were led by American forward Shane Henry (203-1993, college: Virginia Tech) who had that evening a double-double by scoring 13 points and 19 rebounds and the other American import point guard Jeffery Stubbs (189-1991, college: Jackson St.) supported him with 19 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists. Worth to mention Henry played also at Eurobasket Summer League, which helped get the job in pro basketball. Buffaloes' coach Eric Weissling used entire bench in such tough game. Even 32 points and 6 assists by American point guard Ed Horton (186-1985, college: Murray St.) did not help to save the game for Dragons. Filipino point guard Michael Soy (182-1997, college: Algonquin) added 21 points for the guests. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Buffaloes maintains third position with 5-3 record having just three points less than leader Heat. Loser Dragons keep the fifth place with seven games lost. Buffaloes will meet Dolphins (#4) in the next round. Dragons will play against Dolphins in Nha Trang and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

There was an upset when second-ranked Wings (6-3) lost to bottom-ranked Catfish (2-7) in Ho Chi Minh 82-88 on Tuesday. Catfish had a 35-24 advantage in offensive rebounds. The winners were led by American center DeAngelo Hamilton (203-1990, college: WSU) who had that evening a double-double by scoring 40 points (!!!) and 13 rebounds and the former international point guard Sang Dinh Thanh (185-1994) supported him with 15 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists. Four Catfish players scored in double figures. Even a double-double of 41 points (!!!) and 14 rebounds by American forward DeSean Parsons (201-1995, college: Portland St.) did not help to save the game for Wings. His fellow American import point guard Devon Thomas (183-1994, college: Texas Tech) added 25 points, 11 rebounds, 6 assists and 5 steals for the hosts. Wings' coach rotated eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. Catfish maintains seventh position with 2-7 record. Loser Wings keep the second place with three games lost. Catfish will meet at home higher ranked Buffaloes (#3) in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Wings will play against Warriors and hope to secure a win.
