VBA Round 10 of Regular Season

There are only two more rounds left in the Regular Season in VBA. Here is the last round review presented by ESL.

The most interesting game of round 10 was a home defeat of their close opponent Saigon Heat (7-6) to third ranked HCMC W. (8-5) 79-65. It was a key game for the top position in the league. HCMC W. forced 24 Saigon Heat turnovers and outrebounded them 50-36 including a 27-11 advantage in offensive rebounds. American forward Wayne Martin (201-93, college: Tennessee St.) had a double-double by scoring 30 points and 19 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and Vinh Nguyen-Quang chipped in 16 points, 13 rebounds, 7 assists and 4 steals during the contest. At the losing side American Nix Tavarion (201-92, college: Midwestern St.) responded with a double-double by scoring 20 points, 10 rebounds and 4 blocks. HCMC W. keeps a position of league leader, which they share with Can Tho CF. Saigon Heat lost third consecutive game. They keep the third place with six games lost. HCMC W. is looking forward to face bottom-ranked Danang D. (#6) at home in the next round where they are favorite. Saigon Heat will play against Danang D. and is hoping to win this game.
Very important is a road loss of third ranked Saigon Heat (7-6) against fifth ranked Hanoi B. (6-8) on Tuesday night. Visiting Saigon Heat was defeated by Hanoi B. in a tough game in Hanoi 61-65. American forward Michael Bell (206-82, college: FAU) notched a double-double by scoring 18 points and 19 rebounds to lead the effort and Henry Nguyen supported him with 19 points and 5 rebounds. Even a double-double of 28 points, 28 rebounds and 4 assists by American Nix Tavarion (201-92, college: Midwestern St.) did not help to save the game for Saigon Heat. Hanoi B. maintains fifth position with 6-8 record. Saigon Heat lost third consecutive game. They keep the third place with six games lost. Hanoi B. will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Saigon Heat will play on the road against Danang D. and hopes to get back on the winning track.
Fourth ranked Thang Long W. (6-7) crushed at home 6th ranked Danang D. (4-8) by 29 points 80-51, which is the biggest margin this round on Saturday night. Jaywuan Hill fired a double-double by scoring 30 points and 22 rebounds for the winners. Anthony January produced a double-double by scoring 26 points and 17 rebounds for lost side. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Thang Long W. maintains fourth position with 6-7 record. Danang D. at the other side stay at the bottom place with eight games lost. Thang Long W. will meet at home league's second-placed Can Tho CF in the next round and it may be the game of the week. Danang D. will play against Saigon Heat (#3) and hope to secure a win.

In the last game of round 10 Hanoi B. lost to Can Tho CF on the opponent's court 64-70.



Can Tho CF - Hanoi B. 70-64

Rather expected game when 5th ranked Hanoi B. (6-8) was defeated on the road by third ranked Can Tho CF (8-5) 70-64 on Thursday. Can Tho CF forced 28 Hanoi B. turnovers. Strangely Hanoi B. outrebounded Can Tho CF 58-43 including 16 on the offensive glass. American power forward DeAngelo Hamilton (203-90, college: WSU) fired a double-double by scoring 21 points and 20 rebounds for the winners. Swingman Tam Dinh-Thanh (192-95) chipped in 27 points and 7 rebounds. American forward Michael Bell (206-82, college: FAU) produced a double-double by scoring 25 points and 36 rebounds and the former international point guard Ngoc Tu-Le (179-90) added 11 points and 6 rebounds respectively for lost side. Defending champion keeps a position of league leader, which they share with HCMC W. Hanoi B. at the other side keeps the fifth place with eight games lost. Can Tho CF will meet Thang Long W. (#4) in the next round. Hanoi B. will have a break next round.

Dat Nguyen-Thanh (179) chipped in 20 points and 6 rebounds. American forward Anthony January (203-93, college: CS San Bernar.) produced a double-double by scoring 26 points and 17 rebounds and the former international swingman Hung Nguyen Van (193-80) added 14 points and 5 rebounds respectively for lost side.
