VBA Round 7: Danang D. loses to HCMC W. in the game between Top 4 teams

Here is the last round review presented by ESL.

Very significant was HCMC W.'s (#1, 7-3) victory against 4th placed Danang D. (3-5) 75-71. It was a great evening for American forward Wayne Martin (201-93, college: Tennessee St.) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 22 points and 13 rebounds. Vinh Nguyen-Quang helped adding 16 points and 7 rebounds. HCMC W.'s coach Predrag Lukic used an eleven-player rotation in such tough game. At the losing side American forward Anthony January (203-93, college: CS San Bernar.) responded with a double-double by scoring 26 points, 16 rebounds and 4 assists. HCMC W. have a solid series of three victories in a row. They maintain first place with 7-3 record. Danang D. at the other side keeps the fourth position with five games lost. HCMC W. are looking forward to face Hanoi B. (#5) at home in the next round. Danang D. will play against Can Tho CF and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
The game in Hanoi supposed to be also worth to mention about. Third ranked Can Tho CF (5-4) played at the court of 5th ranked Hanoi B. (3-6). Can Tho CF smashed Hanoi B. 131-99. It was an exceptional evening for swingman Tam Dinh-Thanh (192-95) who led the winners with a double-double by scoring 36 points (!!!), 13 rebounds and 6 assists. Sang Dinh-Thanh accounted for 22 points, 10 rebounds and 7 assists. Can Tho CF's coach Jordan Collins felt very confident that he used 11 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Naturalized American Henry Nguyen (170, college: Orange Coast CC) came up with 25 points for Hanoi B. in the defeat. Defending champion maintains third place with 5-4 record having just three points less than leader HCMC W. Hanoi B. at the other side keeps the fifth position with six games lost. They share it with Thang Long W.. Can Tho CF will play against Danang D. (#4) at home in the next round. Hanoi B. will play against the league's leader HCMC W. in Hochiminh and hopes to get back on the winning track.

In the last two games of round 7 Thang Long W. lost to Danang D. on the opponent's court 70-75. Saigon H. managed to outperform Thang Long W. in a home game 69-52.



Danang D. - Thang Long W. 75-70

The game between closely ranked teams ended with 5th ranked Thang Long W.'s (3-6) road loss to fourth ranked Danang D. (3-5) 70-75. It was an exceptional evening for American forward Anthony January (203-93, college: CS San Bernar.) who led the winners with a double-double by scoring 36 points (!!!) and 23 rebounds (made all of his seven free throws). Naturalized American point guard Horace Nguyen (178, college: Bristol) accounted for 12 points for the winning side. American power forward Jaywuan Hill (203-89, college: SW Baptist, agency: AgainHello) came up with a double-double by scoring 26 points and 16 rebounds and naturalized American Justin Young (190, college: Cal Poly Pomona) added 11 points and 6 rebounds respectively for Thang Long W. in the defeat. Thang Long W.'s coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Danang D. maintains fourth place with 3-5 record. Thang Long W. lost third consecutive game. They dropped to the bottom position with six games lost. They share it with Hanoi B.. Danang D. will play against higher ranked Can Tho CF (#3) on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Thang Long W. will play against the league's leader HCMC W. in Hochiminh and hopes to get back on the winning track.

Hanoi B. - Can Tho CF 99-131

The game in Hanoi supposed to be also worth to mention about. Third ranked Can Tho CF (5-4) played at the court of 5th ranked Hanoi B. (3-6). Can Tho CF smashed Hanoi B. 131-99. Can Tho CF well out of reach of Hanoi B. shooting 72.6 percent from the field. They also forced 19 Hanoi B. turnovers and outrebounded them 61-29 including a 51-14 advantage in defensive rebounds. Can Tho CF players were unselfish on offense dishing 39 assists comparing to just 15 passes made by Hanoi B.'s players. Hanoi B. was plagued by 26 personal fouls down the stretch. It was an exceptional evening for swingman Tam Dinh-Thanh (192-95) who led the winners with a double-double by scoring 36 points (!!!), 13 rebounds and 6 assists. Swingman Sang Dinh-Thanh (185) accounted for 22 points, 10 rebounds and 7 assists for the winning side.
